THE INSIDERS GUIDE TO ZANZIBAR WEDDINGS – CHUMBE ISLAND

Chumbe Island Coral Park is perfect for couples looking for a romantic castaway experience. In addition, it is dotted with secluded beaches and spaces that are perfect for intimate wedding ceremonies and dinners.

CHUMBE ISLAND IS THE PERFECT SPOT FOR SECLUDED ZANZIBAR WEDDINGS

Ben Taylor, the Custodian of Chumbe Island, says; “Chumbe is like the Holy Grail. It’s the gold star of how you do eco-tourism to fund conservation and education… Even if I didn’t work here I’d have to come here on a pilgrimage. It’s an incredible place. In addition, it’s perfect for couples looking for a romantic getaway.”

Chumbe Island is an award-winning private nature reserve that has been conserving the uninhabited island since 1991. The reserve includes a fully protected coral reef sanctuary and forest reserve. The island is home to rare wildlife, has an education centre, a small eco-lodge, nature walks and historical monuments.

The marine reserve is host to more than 50 genera of corals, over 500 species of reef fish, sponges, starfish and clams. If you’re lucky you may even encounter Chumbe’s resident hawksbill sea turtles and black-tip reef sharks. The forest is home to a small population of critically endangered Ader’s duiker antelopes, nearly 80 species of birds, and a vast array of insects, reptiles and crustaceans, including the giant coconut crab.
