SPICE TOUR

Zanzibar is famously known as the Spice Island, so you can’t miss out the opportunity to visit a local spice farm to learn how we produce spices and utilise the spices in cooking and medication.

Spices and herbs were originally introduced to Zanzibar by Portuguese traders in the 16th century, brought from their colonies in South America and India.

While there, you shall see how the spices, herbs and fruits grow and are cultivated. You’ll be immersed in smelling and tasting spices, herbs and tropical fruits such as clove, lemongrass, nutmeg, cinnamon, turmeric, vanilla, coconuts, papaya, chili, black pepper, jackfruit, cardamom, cassava and oranges.

After the tour you can enjoy an additional optional of a traditional swahili lunch at the farm, where you can really taste the different ways of using spices.

You’ll also see how people traditionally climb coconut palm trees, which can be quite harrowing & entertaining at the same time!

The tour finishes with a stop at a spice stall selling fresh packaged spices.
